Our Story

Arturo Natella's path to founding Amaru was unconventional, its roots stretching back to a teenage fascination with the inner workings of technology. In a hands-on IT program, he wasn't just a student; he was an active builder – running network cables, troubleshooting hardware, and diving into programming. This intense curiosity to understand systems from the inside out even led him to explore network vulnerabilities, a formative experience that underscored both the power of technology and the lessons of navigating its boundaries. When his college path didn't offer a direct route into computer science, he channeled this drive to understand and improve systems into political science and law, a decision that would later bring unique perspective to his life's work.

This underlying passion for systems and how they could better serve people took a powerful new direction years later. While working on the Martha Coakley for Governor Campaign, Arturo connected deeply with immigrant and BIPOC communities across Massachusetts. After the campaign's loss, as he sought direction from established leaders, he encountered not just locked doors, but a disheartening reality: guidance that was often out of touch, advice that sometimes hindered rather than helped, and a system where access felt guarded by gatekeepers, not shared openly.

This experience wasn't just a disappointment; it was a call to action. It crystallized the challenge that would define Amaru's mission: if the pathways weren't there, they had to be built. Amaru started as a simple response – a curated job listserv offering genuine guidance where it was desperately lacking, fueled by the conviction that potential shouldn't be dictated by who you know, but by what you can contribute and your drive to grow.

This conviction was honed through impactful work – from shaping workforce development policy at the Massachusetts State Legislature to championing inclusive environments at Diversity at Workplace. There, Arturo translated these ideals into tangible change, designing transformative DEI recruitment strategies and guiding organizations from academia, Fortune 500s, and startups toward building more equitable and high-performing cultures. He saw firsthand that the desire for genuine guidance and fair systems was immense.

But the true story of Amaru isn't just about its founder. It's about us. It's about every individual who has felt the sting of being overlooked despite their talents. It's about every founder striving to build a diverse, innovative team in a system that often feels stacked against them. It's about every community that yearns to see its members thrive.

Through our work, Amaru has helped diverse talent secure over $800,000 in salary attainment and partnered with initiatives like the Healey Axdministration to connect Latino talent with state-wide opportunities – building bridges where none existed.

This is just the beginning. The challenge ahead, especially in an era of rapid technological and social change, and in pioneering fields like AI and Quantum where every hire is pivotal, is urgent. We can't afford to leave talent on the sidelines.

That's why Amaru is committed to revolutionizing hiring itself – making it more fair, transparent, and effective. To us, this isn't just a platitude; it's a practice. We believe real opportunity offers more than just a job title. It must provide a foundation for growth, fairness, and advancement.

Therefore, every opportunity Amaru champions is measured against our core principles:

  • Ensuring Economic Fairness, where salaries align with or exceed living standards.

  • Fostering genuine Professional Growth through mentorship and clear development opportunities.

  • Providing access to High-Growth Industries where individuals can build future-proof careers.

  • And guaranteeing Defined Pathways for Advancement that break down traditional career ceilings.

By upholding these standards for the roles we engage with, Amaru aims to be more than just a recruiting firm—it aims to be a catalyst for meaningful, lasting change in the job market. We envision a world where your potential and aspiration, not just your network, define your path.

The recognitions, like the 2023 ALX100 and COLOR's POWER Award, are signposts that we're on the right path. But our real success is measured in the careers launched, the innovative teams built, and the communities strengthened.

Join us in building this future. Let's create equitable job markets where opportunity is a reality for all.
