Location: Hybrid (Remote with light required travel to events in MA, RI, and NH)
Compensation: $20/hour
Hours: 20-25 hours per week
Term: September 1 - December 19, 2025
Travel: As this role requires local residency, it involves occasional, sometimes short-notice, travel to events throughout the tri-state region.
Our travel policy covers expenses for this local travel, including company-provided rides, public transit fares, and pre-approved mileage. The policy does not cover flights or other forms of long-distance commuting to events.
About the CCUA:
The Cooperative Credit Union Association (CCUA) is a trade group association that represents the interests of credit unions in Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island by empowering them, individually and collectively, to provide consumers with outstanding financial services. In addition, the CCUA provides an array of services and leadership to support credit unions in their mission to further promote and sustain their respective communities' economic vitality. The CCUA represents the interests of credit unions in Washington and locally at the state level.
The CCUA provides resources to stay compliant. They provide policy templates, access compliance toolkits, and support the continuous learning of the regulatory landscape.
The CCUA helps its members stay on top of important issues through its conferences and other learning events.
About the Role:
Are you energized by advocacy and eager to gain hands-on experience influencing policy in the financial services sector? At CCUA, you won’t be grabbing coffee—you’ll be making a real impact. As our Government Affairs Intern, you’ll contribute directly to advocacy efforts across four states, support critical communications, and represent the organization at key events and meetings.
You’ll work side-by-side with experienced government affairs professionals, taking ownership of real deliverables and producing results that matter. From staffing legislative hearings to crafting professional communications, this is an opportunity to do meaningful work that builds your resume and your network.
Success in this role means consistently achieving the following objectives:
Event Logistics & Support: Within the first 30 days, independently manage logistical preparations for advocacy events (virtual and in-person), including drafting agendas, coordinating information sharing, and preparing necessary materials (e.g., one-pagers with updated data) to ensure seamless execution.
Live Event Staffing & Reporting: Staff advocacy events and legislative hearings alongside senior team members by taking detailed notes, capturing photos, identifying key attendees for follow-up, and promptly producing concise event summaries and social media content within 24 hours.
Communication Material Production: Regularly develop and draft professional communications materials, including social media posts (utilizing tools like Canva), website updates, newsletter content, and member emails (e.g., event follow-ups), ensuring alignment with CCUA's brand voice and style guidelines with minimal revisions required.
Meeting Coverage & Synthesis: Staff virtual meetings with external stakeholders (e.g., national associations) when senior staff are unavailable, accurately capturing key discussion points and action items, and providing concise, actionable summaries to the team within the same business day.
Member Inquiry Triage: Efficiently handle routine member inquiries by utilizing provided standard responses and directing members to the appropriate resources (e.g., compliance vendor information), thereby freeing up senior staff time, within the first 60 days.
Proactive Task Management: Demonstrate autonomy by proactively identifying task requirements, utilizing available resources, asking clarifying questions early in the process, and consistently delivering completed assignments by agreed-upon deadlines.
Professional Representation: Consistently represent CCUA professionally in all interactions, whether virtual or in-person, including maintaining a presentable appearance during video calls and communicating effectively with senior-level professionals.
